Intelligence Bureau officials pointed out that this pattern was followed by terror outfits to confuse the investigators and divert the attention of the agencies. A similar call was made purportedly by the IM after the UP serial blasts and by the Deccan Mujahideen after the terror attack on Mumbai.There are absolutely no records to show the existence of such an outfit and it is clear that it was a hoax call, said IB officials.

Nearly four years after the 7/11 serial train blasts, the trial in the case is all set to resume on Monday in a special court in Mumbai against 13 arrested accused, alleged to be members of the banned terror outfit Students Islamic Movement of India. Soon after the Ahmedabad blasts, a call was made allegedly from Sabarmati jail in Gujarat to Pakistan. The conversation was intercepted by the IB. The person who made the call (not named as it may hamper probe) told a person in Pakistan, Operation BAD had been successful. Based on this intercept, the IB and the Gujarat police decoded the message and came to the conclusion that BAD stood for Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Delhi.

The Supreme Court on Thursday further extended the ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India till the second week of October.Justice Geeta Mittal of the Delhi High Court had lifted the ban on August 5 on the grounds that the evidence against the outfit was too weak to justify the extension of ban under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for allegedly indulging in terrorist and anti-national activities.The apex court had, however, stayed the operation of the order.
